Mahrukh Sheikh

Mahrukh Sheikh is a fourth-year Professional Communication student at Toronto Metropolitan University with a minor in Marketing. Her experience spans digital communications, event coordination, and content creation through roles at the Experiential Learning Hub and the Ted Rogers School of Management. She has worked on website management, social media content, newsletters, and event planning initiatives that support community engagement. Involved on campus, as VP of Events for the TMU Plant Club, she helped create and organize initiatives that brought students together through engaging campus events. Interested in storytelling, digital strategy, and community engagement, she hopes to pursue a career in marketing and communications where she can create meaningful connections between organizations and their audiences.

Mahrukh’s research examines how experiences with Toronto’s public transit system (TTC) are discussed on social media platforms such as TikTok. Public transit is a shared part of everyday life in the city, and online posts often capture riders’ frustrations, humour, and reflections about commuting. The goal of this study is to analyze these discussions to identify common themes and understand how social media conversations shape broader narratives about commuting culture and what it means to experience daily life in Toronto.
