Tanner Jackson

I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, and lived there for 17 years until moving to Toronto to pursue Professional Communication at TMU and to play for the rugby team, which I captained for 3 years. I grew up playing a variety of sports, which sparked my main research interest. I am also interested in music and culture. I have experience working in the sports communications industry, and I want to continue pursuing that passion after graduation.

My research examines how sports can unite people after tragedy and how sports arenas and PR campaigns shape the narrative around team responses and public reception. I look at a variety of examples from different professional sports, including the NHL and NFL. I break down the three key elements of sports tragedy PR, and what campaigns need to focus on to be received well by the public.
