My name is Carter Thomas, and I am completing my BA in Professional Communications at Toronto Metropolitan University. My professional interests centre on digital media and audience engagement, where I hope to gain further knowledge within the corporate and marketing industries. Beyond my studies, I am passionate about sports, finance, automotive’s, and fashion. Driven by a deep respect for the first responder community, I have dedicated this project to uncovering the reproductive health challenges faced by female firefighters.

This project investigates the occupational factors contributing to the elevated miscarriage rates among female firefighters. Women play a crucial role in emergency response, however they encounter unique workplace exposures and stressors that research has linked to increased risks of miscarriage and adverse pregnancy outcomes. By examining these conditions and evaluating existing departmental guidelines, this project aims to better understand how workplace policies influence the health and safety of female firefighters within this industry. The goal is to raise awareness and support protections for women in the fire service.
