Biography

Maya Greene is a soon-to-be graduate from the professional communication program at Toronto Metropolitan University. She has always been interested in the intersection of media and mental health, which led her to focus her capstone project on the relationship between fandom and mental health. Maya explored how being part of a fandom can provide a sense of community, identity, and support to individuals struggling with mental health issues. Maya is an avid fan of various music artists as well as TV and movie franchises, which has influenced her perspective on the power of storytelling to shape our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

Research Summary

This project explores the relationship between fandom and mental health. It relies on primary and secondary research to investigate the potential positive and negative aspects of participating in fan culture, specifically within online communities.
