I am a fourth-year undergraduate student studying professional communications with minors in public relations and fashion studies at Toronto Metropolitan University. After I graduate, I intend to apply my knowledge as a communication student in creative spaces.

Over the years, my interest in the magazine industry has grown since I enjoy connecting my interests and sharing my writing. While studying at TMU, I began writing and interviewing for a student-led magazine. While developing the second issue of the magazine, I had the opportunity to write articles, edit interviews, and work closely with editors to produce thoughtful content.

I am currently an EDI executive for Signify, Toronto Metropolitan University’s annual capstone showcase. This experience has given me the opportunity to collaborate with my peers to organize the event.

After I graduate, I hope to apply what I have learned to my future endeavours and use my experiences in the professional world.

Entrepreneurship and Intersectionality: Instagram’s Role in Promoting Magazines Owned by Women of Colour explores the ways women of colour navigate the print and digital magazine industry. Many women of colour own print and/or digital magazine companies and often use Instagram to promote their content.

The research shows that Instagram provides women of colour in the print and digital magazine industry with the tools to reach audiences that would otherwise be inaccessible, amplify the voices of their community and a platform to share their creative work, which has been limited in the past.

My research aimed to investigate the methods and motivations behind the use of print and digital magazines by women of colour to share their stories, experiences, and beliefs.
