It takes $2.99 to ask for a deepfake picture and video of your friend, celebrity, fantasy person, and one website to host this service. A website that produces harmful fake images of this now vulnerable person. Deepfakes are pieces of split AI synthesized material called GANS or Generative Adversarial Networks which work by using two different machine-learning models with opposing goals, training one another. Deepfake Pornography is harmful to the victim and to the user, over 96% of deepfake pornography is non-consensual and the easy-to access is dangerous. This paper is inspired by the different case studies regarding deepfake pornography and its effects on our current society when it comes to gender violence and harm for women and children through image-based sexual abuse. Companies like X, Facebook, and Telegram are now giants in the space with very little conditions and protections making this research question how conglomerates see and question the value of users. This research touches on the attitudes of how different parties view deepfake pornography and intends to educate the reader on the offences caused by deepfake pornography. It also goes into how deepfake can be prosecuted and also questions whether countries like Canada have enough in its policy and laws to prosecute psychologically damaging activities.
