Details of Project

This research project examined the role of hockey in cultural integration into Canadian society. Using data from the NHL, Hockey Canada, the Canadian Census, and various studies, an analysis was conducted on the barriers and enablers of hockey participation. The findings reveal that rink accessibility, cost, cultural shifts, representation, and climate all influence the ease of entry into hockey. Furthermore, it was found that immigrants who engaged in hockey culture experienced a stronger sense of belonging and Canadian identity.
