Biography
My name is Ava Clark; I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s in professional communications here at Toronto Metropolitan University and will be furthering my education with an undergraduate certificate here at TMU in public relations, expecting to complete the program by 2026. I’ve gained experience in digital media software such as InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and more. With four years of an undergraduate education, I can strongly say I carry strong writing, content creation, and marketing skills.
Social media, marketing, and public relations drove me to choose my Signify topic. My passion to learn more on an industry i hope to succeed in has motivated me to pursue this idea. With this research, I hope to not only learn the impact social media has on the public relations and entertainment industry but also all the impact it has on our society.

In today’s digital world, social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok have revolutionized communication by giving viewers around the world more power over the narrative rather than traditional public relations specialists. With more than 4 billion users and 70% of consumers anticipating prompt replies in times of crisis, PR’s traditional gatekeeping function is being reinterpreted.
This study looks at these revolutionary changes, concentrating on how social media affects ethical behaviour, crisis management, and narrative control in the context of “cancel culture.” By employing a mixed-methods approach that includes surveys, interviews, case studies, and content analysis, the study sheds light on the flexible tactics that public relations practitioners need to use in order to preserve credibility and confidence in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
