Research Summary

COVID-19 has had an overwhelming effect on the Canadian population but there has been less acknowledgement of the fact that post-pandemic, people are still emotionally and socially impacted significantly. A large demographic that have suffered post-pandemic are Canadian university students. The rates of anxiety and depression in these students have barely dropped since the pandemic ended in 2021. A major reason for this is due to universities not having enough mental health resources to fit the demand.

Research Poster

A poster promoting the 'WithU' mental health app. The top section, with a purple-to-orange gradient, displays 'WithU' and its description: 'a mobile app dedicated to providing better mental health access for Canadian university students post-COVID-19 pandemic.' A smartphone image shows the app's interface, featuring the 'WithU Mental Health Services' title and a 'W' logo in a speech bubble. The lower section is titled 'Post-COVID-19 Mental Health in Canadian University Students' and states the app was conceptualized using the design thinking process. Three columns detail this: 'Empathize' notes users are Canadian university students seeking post-pandemic mental health help; 'Define' lists barriers like insurance and awareness; 'Ideate' explains choosing this as the most urgent post-pandemic student need.
