How the COVID-19 Pandemic Impacted Audience Trends in the Theatre Industry

Olivia Trefiak

A young woman with fair skin, brown eyes, and shoulder-length, golden blonde wavy hair smiles directly at the camera. She is wearing a dark, possibly black, long-sleeved top and two gold necklaces: a flat, thicker chain closer to her neck, and a longer, thinner chain with a sparkling 'L' initial pendant. The background is plain white.

Biography

Hi there, my name is Olivia Trefiak and I am a fourth year Professional Communications major at Toronto Metropolitan University with a minor in Public Relations. I have a background in dance which has inspired my capstone project where I explored the arts industry. After graduating I am eager to pursue a career in Public Relations or Advertising.

Research Summary

My capstone project researched audience changes within the theatre industry throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. More specifically, how the arts sector had to adapt to the challenges of the pandemic to provide performances and how audience consumption patterns have changed. I collected data through structured interviews with the Stratford Festival, Shaw Festival Theatre and Drayton Festival Theatre.
