The Health Implications of Touring

Biography

A smiling young woman with medium skin tone and brown eyes looks directly at the camera. She has curly, shoulder-length dark brown hair with distinct blonde highlights framing her face. She wears a black ribbed mock-neck top with several unbuttoned silver snap closures down the front, small gold hoop earrings (one with a pearl drop), and a subtle nose ring. The background is solid white.

My name is Sofia Stadler, and I’m completing my undergraduate degree in Professional Communication with a minor in Psychology. My research focuses on how musicians’ health is implicated in the touring experience. As a music venue employee, the touring lifestyle has long intrigued me. Drawing on my interest in the music industry and my academic interests in health communications, this capstone was a passion project fueled by my excitement and curiosity for the topic. Moving forward, I hope to continue engaging with these passions and curiosities in my career.

Details of Project

This research project explores how musicians’ health is implicated in touring, seeking to identify the driving factors behind health vulnerabilities and the key impacts of those vulnerabilities. The research was conducted by interviewing touring musicians on their experiences and perceptions of health. By examining these experiences and highlighting key themes, the aim is to increase awareness, identify areas for improvement, and better understand what artists need to support their wellbeing.
