Carina is a fourth-year student about to graduate with a degree in Professional Communications. Throughout her studies, she has built a strong foundation in writing, communication, and storytelling, mastering the skills necessary to effectively engage with diverse audiences. Carina’s greatest asset is her creativity, which allows her to explore topics that intrigue her with passion and charisma. Is it possible that faith can bring peace and hope to some while conflict and struggle to others? What perspectives surround the idea of faith and how does one continue, or forsake it? This capstone dives into the perspectives behind faith, with a specific focus on individuals with chronic illness. Looking at primary data from several social media platforms, Carina examines how faith acts as both a source of solace and a potential point of tension for individuals facing chronic health challenges everyday.

By analyzing personal narratives, she gained insight into the complex relationship between spirituality and chronic illness. She found an underrepresentation of certain perspectives on faith and how this lack of representation influences the broader experience of one’s spiritual connection to faith. By amplifying voices that are often overlooked in mainstream discussions, this study reveals how diverse experiences with faith can shape an individual’s spiritual journey in ways that may not be readily visible or recognized.
