Biography

Alexis Luc is a graduating student in the Professional Communication program at Toronto Metropolitan University. Her academic interests lie at the intersection of arts, culture, and politics, with a focus on how visual and written media shape public discourse. She brings a particular strength in photography and visual storytelling to her research and creative practice.

Details of Project

Her research explores the intersections of gender, nationalism, and media representation in Vietnam. Her current project, Framing Femininity: Gender, Nation, and Identity in Vietnamese Cinema, analyzes how Vietnamese films construct ideals of womanhood and how these representations reinforce or challenge dominant cultural ideologies. Drawing from feminist media studies and postcolonial theory, Alexis examines recurring themes of sacrifice, silence, and emotional labor in cinematic portrayals of Vietnamese women. Her work is driven by a personal investment in deconstructing inherited narratives and amplifying culturally specific feminist perspectives.
