The Role of Parental Involvement in Student Academic Achievement

Bio

Hi! My name is Victoria and I am a fourth year ProCom student at Toronto Metropolitan University. Aside from my interests in communication studies, my passion lies in education and working with kids. I have been working alongside teachers in classrooms for the past five years to broaden my experience in teaching and gain a deeper understanding of the profession. I have enjoyed developing my communication skills throughout this four year program and look forward to applying them in my next step!

Research Summary

My research study is on the role of parental involvement in student academic achievement, with a specific focus on cultural influences that impact a student’s learning opportunities. I conducted a literature review that analyzed different roles of involvement such as school-based involvement, home-based involvement, and emotion-based involvement. Moreover, I conducted a secondary data analysis on the impact that cultural influences have on a student’s learning and the opportunities they are able to achieve. The significance of this research is to educate parents, teachers, and students on the importance of involvement within a students’ learning.
