Research Summary

“Muslims make up 25% of the world’s population yet were only 1.1% of characters in popular television series” (Tsioulcas, 2022). However, what is more concerning is that when Muslim characters are presented on screen they are portrayed as barbaric perpetrators of violence, criminals, and extremists in most cases. The aim of this research is to analyze various Muslim characters from popular TV shows and movies to see if they reinforce negative stereotypes and see the impact that has own society perceptions about Islam and the Muslim community.
