Biography

Hi! My name is Julia Luciano, and I am a soon-to-be graduate of Toronto Metropolitan’s Professional Communication class of 2023. I am a committed, curious and detail-oriented individual, so working on this research project has been a rewarding experience.

Research Summary

I analyzed the public’s perception of extractive industry organizations’ corporate social responsibility initiatives for my research project. I conducted qualitative research by collecting Tweets about ExxonMobil, BP and Shell’s CSR initiatives. I analyzed this data by seeing how many tweets were negative, positive or neutral. I realized the public had mixed responses to these initiatives, so I conducted further social media analysis to understand why. My main conclusion was that people were more receptive to initiatives that did not directly relate to sustainability or had another social issue embedded into the campaign.
