Research Summary

The Theatrics of Social Media is a research project that examines social media influencers and the meaning behind their sponsored content. Roka conducted qualitative analysis on influencer content, taking a critical eye to the images, videos, and the captions attached to them, where the ads are the actual subject of my analysis. Through the lens of social semiotics theory, Roka investigates the strategic use of curated posts by influencers and compares them across various industries. The research project looks to reveal how influencers portray themselves and how they effectively promote products, services all while maintaining their following and engagement.
