About me

Hi! My name is Lauren, and I am a fourth-year student at Ryerson studying Professional Communication. Although I am graduating from Ryerson, I completed three years at Wilfrid Laurier University studying Communication Studies. The transition to Ryerson was amazing, and the people I’ve met and the friendships I’ve made in my short time here will last a lifetime. Currently, I am the Executive Communication Director at The CFO Leadership Council Toronto. However, my plans include getting a postgraduate diploma in Marketing.

Research

Research

My research project is about Instagram and its implications on Body Image in both males and females between the ages of 17-26.

The current findings support that Instagram does harm people’s body image and the way they see themselves. 48% of my participants have suffered from an eating disorder or body dysmorphia, and out of that 48%, over 80% have said it came from social media, such as Instagram.

Since there is research to back up the harmful effects on body image from Instagram, I want to continue my research by educating the younger generation that Instagram does not have to be a place of comparison.
