Tara Collins

Tara Collins

A black and white, head-and-shoulders portrait of a young woman with long, dark, straight hair parted in the middle. She is smiling broadly, showing her teeth, and has prominent eyelashes. She wears a dark top and two layered silver chain necklaces, the longer one featuring a small, textured heart-shaped pendant. The background is a plain, light-colored wall.

Hi, my name is Tara Collins. I am currently in fourth year in Professional Communications at Ryerson University.

Research

I decided to research the sports industry field and create my project about the growth of Canadian Basketball, specifically focusing on Toronto as the main hub for producing high level players. Not only was the research about how to coach youth to ready them for the next level, it was also about the impact sport has on youth mental health and success in education. I mainly did qualitative research which included a lot of ground work and varying levels of interviews, focus groups and surveys.

The cover page for Tara Vanessa Collins's 2020 thesis, 'Breaking Boundaries,' about Canadian youth basketball, education, mental health, and sports relations. The design features a large title at the top, and below, a photo of a basketball hoop and net from a low angle, partially obscured by a chain-link fence. Blurred trees and a building are in the background, with a diagonal quote: 'ALL KIDS NEED IS A LITTLE HELP, A LITTLE HOPE & SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES IN THEM' - MAGIC JOHNSON.
