Research

My research project focuses on student loans and their impact on important life decisions made by students. This topic is relevant given the current OSAP cuts made by the provincial government and the action that is being taken by students in retaliation. My findings showcase that the existence of student debt not only adds feelings of stress and anxiety but also influences students decisions to attend post-graduate schools and travelling. While the impact of student loans already added stress and anxiety on students, the elimination of the six months grace period and a decrease of grants have participants further expressing feelings deeming it to be unfair and pushing inequality.

An infographic titled 'Student Loans: What is the Impact of Debt?' by Orab Amjid, set against a background of graduating students throwing caps in the air. It presents several statistics: 67% of students work throughout school, 60% feel stress over loan repayment, and 56% are impacted by OSAP Custs. A pie chart shows 54.8% of students do not believe their debt is worth the education received. A bar chart illustrates student debt contributes to mental health factors, with stress and anxiety being the highest. The infographic also asks 'How Does It Affect Important Life Decisions?', explaining that student debt adds stress, influences post-grad decisions like graduate school, travel, and home buying, and that the elimination of the six-month grace period and decreased grants are perceived as unfair and pushing inequality.
