Research

In the following research study, I aim to explore the relationships between Internet language, specifically memes, and society’s communication practices, to elucidate implications this relationship arises for the Institution.

A detailed research poster titled 'The Implications of Internet Language,' by Honey Maglinte. The top features a scatter plot showing individual smartphone screen times (0-15 hours) recorded in February 2020. A text section describes the research scope regarding internet language and memes. A pie chart on 'Preferred Platforms to Gather News' indicates digital mediums (social media) are favored over traditional mediums. Another pie chart on 'Most Used Social Media Platforms' shows Instagram at 49%, Snapchat 12.2%, YouTube 10.2%, Reddit 8.2%, Twitter 8.2%, TikTok 6.1%, and Facebook 6.1%. Text sections further elaborate on 'The Power of Web 2.0' concerning social media, censorship, and data, and 'What does this mean?' discussing the paradox of freedom and control online. A quote from a 20-year-old male participant highlights the versatility of memes. The design includes social media icons and subtle Spider-Man imagery.
