Hadiza Saidu

A well-lit, front-facing portrait of a young Black woman from the chest up against a plain light background. She has dark skin, and her hair is styled in dark brown braids, some pulled back, others visible at the sides. She wears a black high-neck top and prominent gold-toned hoop earrings. Her gaze is direct, and her expression is calm and neutral.

Hadiza Saidu, a 4th year student at Ryerson University, is taking a major in professional communication and a minor in public relations.

Research

This research investigates the impact design copying has on designers today, three subjects we interviewed using grounded theory to understand how copying in the fashion industry impact them.

A poster-style image with a white background and the large, bold, brushstroke text 'THE COPYCAT ECONOMY' at the top. Below it, a horizontal black brushstroke banner contains the white text 'DID YOU KNOW-DESIGNERS FEAR BEING COPIED ?'. Beneath the banner, three stylized female fashion illustrations are shown: on the left, a woman in a blue long-sleeved top with white geometric lines; in the center, a woman in a black and pink bustier with a grey peplum skirt-like top; and on the right, a woman in a blue jacket over a dark pleated top. All three figures have voluminous orange hair, closed eyes, and wear black pants. In the top right corner is 'For more info visit https://hadizasaidu.wixsite.com/mysite-4' and in the bottom right, 'Creative commons.org'.
