David Drysdale

A light-skinned young man with short, wavy dark brown hair and dark eyes looks directly at the camera with a subtle, neutral expression. He is wearing a dark navy or black button-up collared shirt, and the image is a chest-up shot against a plain white background.

I am a fourth year Professional Communications student at Ryerson. I am originally from Ottawa, but always wanted to be living here in Toronto. I am currently a Stylist, and am interested in all things music, fashion, and marketing.

Research

My research focused on the experience LGBTQ+ people in the workplace. The research also looks into the effect being queer has on people's career choices.

A detailed infographic titled 'How Does Being Queer Affect a Person's Experience in the Workplace?'. The goal was to identify how being queer affects professional experiences and to create more comfortable spaces. The method involved interviewing 5 queer individuals (2 in creative, 2 in office jobs) and 1 non-queer individual. A quote reads: 'Professional work attire is designed with the straight man in mind, and so are a lot of professional careers.' Outcomes highlight varied experiences, with creative fields seen as more open, some feeling pressure to appear 'heterosexual' to be taken seriously, and a non-queer person being unaware of their own professional presentation. A rainbow pride flag forms the background of the title.
